From the late 1940s all the food used in London Transport (L.T.) canteens and mess rooms was produced at the London Transport Food Production Centre. Staff could also buy certain products including Christmas puddings like this one. Inside the red cellophane wrapping the pudding is in an aluminium foil basin with a cardboard lid that reads 'Christmas Pudding, 1lb., London Transport Food Production Centre, Croydon, 1st October 1975.' There is also a list of ingredients and cooking instructions. The label includes the London Transport roundel motif. For many years the Christmas pudding was the mainstay of L.T.'s festive fare, but was discontinued when the Croydon centre closed in 1983.
