FOODTOPIA: Después de todo territorio

In FOODTOPIA: Después de todo territorio, Las Nietas de Nonó document their process of finding and cooking food in a series of photographs and a video included in the exhibition. The action takes place around the Blasina stream near their home in the San Antón neighborhood in Carolina, an area at risk of industrial development. Part of a durational performance, the artists’ actions exposes how Afro-Puerto Rican people face environmental racism in their communities. Searching for a food utopia within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, Las Nietas de Nonó sustain themselves through Afro-descendant knowledge systems that emphasize a more reciprocal and less extractive relationship with the land.
