The forced labor servicemen – after losing their right to bear arms and losing their military ranks – were mostly engaged on tasks of military significance. This included various duties, from forest clearance to deconstruction of the Romanian defense system along the former border, road construction, draining of marshes, floods control, unloading wagons at stations, airport construction. Beside public works the companies were occasionally sent to large farms and engaged in agricultural labor.
