Forest in Genadendal

Domšaitis painted this picture in his final years, when he lived in Cape Town in South Africa. The range of contrasting green and red tones exudes the African heat. The Expressionist spirit of this skilfully painted landscape is intertwined with Cézanne’s quest for rational composition and fluid form.
