This moquette fabric was designed using the stylised 'fossil' or 'catherine wheel' pattern in greens and red. It was specially commissioned for the seating of the Metropolitan line trains, which kept a separate identity from the other Underground lines for many years. The Metropolitan Railway has always had a more traditional approach to its design, and this is reflected in the highly decorative and more old-fashioned patterns used in the post-war refurbishment. Designed by Jack Thompson and Richard Eatough, the moquette was manufactured by John Holdsworth & Co Limited, one of the leading manufacturers of moquette fabric, in Yorkshire.
