Fossil flora from Bolca

Museum of Natural History of Venice

Museum of Natural History of Venice
Venice, Italy

Among the fossils extracted from the lignite mines of the Purga di Bolca and Mount Vegroni, near Verona, there are spectacular examples of large palm trees, as well as crocodiles and turtles, which seem to indicate a continental marshy environment. Moreover, the discovery of taproot plants, such as Ficus, Fracastoria, Eucalyptus and Mazzeia, demonstrates the presence of widely vegetated lands (Abramo Massalongo Collection).
