Photograph of the exterior archaeological site of the cave of Altamira

Site located outside the cave of Altamira, close to the current access door. This site was excavated in 2008 and 2009 by the Altamira National Museum and Research Center, within the framework of the project 'The Times of Altamira'. The excavation found an archaeological layer with remains from the lower Magdalenian culture, dating back approximately 15,000 years. One of the most significant finds was a deer scapula decorated with an engraving of a doe’s head.
