Bakhchisarai, the capital of the Crimean Khanate, was built in the 16th century by Khan Sahib I Giray amidst lush gardens in the Salachik Valley. It was in honor of these gardens that the beautiful palace received its name. The court chronicler of Khan Kaysuni-zade compared these places to a heavenly abode, where amid healing spring and a fountain the Khan sat on his throne with the dignity of King Solomon.
