The four contemporary Quechua women express the ancient cultural identity of the Chachapoyas, also called the “Warriors of the Clouds”. They have been a civilisation of the higher Amazon of northern Peru and their legacy is still visible in many communities of the region between the River Marañon and the River Huallaga, among which Chazuta. The four women are wearing colourful traditional braids and skirts and on their heads proudly exhibit the ceramics they have produced. Their ability to decorate the pots with ancient symbols connects their cultural identity with the ancestral Chachapoya heritage.
