At the first step in 2011, art professionals and critics selected 21 artists, and curators from 13 private art museums organized their virtual solo exhibitions. KAP would love to introduce a diverse spectrum of Korean contemporary art to the global audience. Through these efforts, KAP will play a significant role in the promotion and development of Korean contemporary art. Also, the KAP will become a useful platform, which will serve as a stepping-stone to create cultural exchange and global networks with diverse art people. Please visit www.koreanartistproject.com
  • Critic's Note: New Media – Learning the New from the Old What allows Lee-nam Lee’s art to reach beyond the medium to provide a new artistic experience is perhaps a certain value that is instilled in his works. Lee’s new media works can be summarized as “the integration of Eastern and Western masterpiece paintings, and cutting-edge digital technology.” After replicating timeless works of art from across the world that ranges from impressionism and symbolism to traditional paintings by literary artists and landscape paintings on a computer screen, Lee converts into 3D image files through Photoshop. He then uses the video-editing program, After Effects, to open those files and edit selective parts of the images to create motion. The trend of digital media artworks replacing the canvas with a monitor and the brush with a mouse has already become a staple part of art studios and research institutes at Korean universities. Nonetheless, Lee has gone beyond the novelty of replicating and altering famous images through digital technology, earning popular appeal through his imagination and creativity. The true value of media art lies not in the acquisition and application of state-of-the-art technology, but rather in the ability of the artist to realize creative ideas hidden between the lines of such said technology. What allows Lee Lee-nam’s art to reach beyond the medium to provide a new artistic experience is perhaps a certain value that is instilled in his works. (This is an excerpt from an original text.)
