Foville, Alfred de (X 1861 ; 1842-1913).

An artillery officer, he became an auditor at the Council of State, then headed the statistics and legislation service at the Ministry of Finance. Director of Mint, Coins and medals in 1893, he was appointed master counselor at the Court of Auditors (Cour des Comptes) in 1900. Professor at the School of Political Science (Ecole libre des sciences politiques) and at the Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers), founder of the International Institute of Statistics, member of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences (1896). Attached to the liberal doctrines of classical economists. Author of numerous books on economics.
