United States. The concepts of peace that the project seeks to illustrate are balance, fragility,
preciousness, precariousness, tension and stability. While the white flag stays the same,
the project focuses on the design of a fragile but precious flagpole.
A pole that is precarious but that express a natural tendency towards balance and
stability. The pole is like a sort of flask, with a tubular glass rod ending in a bubble. Its
variations of thickness means it always stays upright, and even if it were put to the test
by external forces, by its very nature it would always fly the flag from its highest point.
The flagpole was made by master glassblowers in Murano. The gift object is a water jug
made of the same material as the flagpole. Pouring the right amount of water into
the flask-pole makes it more stable and better able to withstand the external forces that
attempt to bring it down.
