Małgorzata Markiewicz's works address the subject of gender identity and characteristics that are culturally attached to it as well as the subject of woman's social status. We can find wit, folklore inspiration, girlish coquetry and gentle eroticism in her art. The photo series Fragility Has a Singular Beauty is part of a project alluding to the theory of five transformations, which ascribes stages in human life to the cycle of five seasons. In the photos Markiewicz poses dressed successively in five old dresses. According to the artist, clothing provides a curtain for the body, a specific mask we are forced to put on. Markiewicz draws attention to the eponymous categories of frailty, delicacy and softness, in which she sees symptoms of life.

Małgorzata Markiewicz (b. 1979) creates objects, installations, videos, as well as photographs. Graduate of the Faculty of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow (diploma in 2004 from Antoni Porczak's studio, in 2015 a Ph.D. degree). She also studied at Konstfack and Critical Design Studio at the Faculty of Architecture of the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. In her works she uses textiles and yarn employing the techniques of sewing, weaving and crocheting, which connects her activities with the trend of feminine art and the tradition of art fabrics.

Her works are in the collections of Bunkier Sztuki in Krakow, MOCAK in Krakow, Museum of Photography in Krakow, Arsenal Gallery in Białystok, BWA in Bielsko Biała, Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź and Berardo Collection Museum in Lisbon, to name a few.
