This wooden fragment originally belonged to the architect George Adam Burn. In a statement written in 1851 he explains: "This coffin lays in the crypt of the cathedral of St. Paul's under the first window from the east end of the south side of the choir. The accompanying piece was broken accidentally from the foot of Sir Christopher's coffin in making preparations for the interrment of Constantina Susan Burgoyne Wren... The fragment was given to me August 20th 1851 by Mr Richards, Verger of the Cathedral..."
