Pencil and ink drawing on paper of the International Lawn Tennis Challenge Trophy, known as the Davis Cup, awarded to champions of the annual international men's team event. The first event was staged in 1900 in Boston between the United States and Great Britain. The event is now the world's largest annual international team competition in sport, with over 130 nations taking part.

Dwight Filley Davis purchased a plain sterling silver punchbowl and tray for $1,000 from Boston company Shreve, Crump and Low and hired the William B. Durgin Company of Concord, New Hampshire to create the elaborate design. The Gorham Company of Providence, Rhode Island acquired the William B. Durgin Company in 1924.
