Letter to his mother Alice Katherine Wynne
28 September 1916
With letters being screened by censorship staff, Charles was concerned about his last communication to his mother. This letter is, as expected, vague about revealing his precise location in North West France.
'We got to our destination about 10. There was a village near here - though in places it is very hard to find any traces of it. I believe there was a tremendous battle here. There are trenches all about - and graves'.
The envelope to accompany this letter clearly shows it has been passed by the field censor.
