Apart from his circle of pupils, Arnold Schönberg also received visitors from abroad, such as Groupe des Six composers Francis Poulenc and Darius Milhaud: “He invited us to his home in Mödling near Vienna. We had a wonderful afternoon there. […] Schönberg spoke in detail about his work, especially about his operas Die glückliche Hand and Erwartung, the scores of which I had just bought. […] The walls of his apartment were full of pictures that he had painted himself: faces and eyes, everywhere eyes!” (Darius Milhaud, 1970)
