For these drawings and related mural, artist Jorge Méndez Blake studied a house in Guadalajara designed by Luis Barragán, one of the most revered architects of the twentieth century who was born in that city. At Casa Franco, Méndez Blake homed in on the checkerboard floor. The artist’s process of translation—of floor pattern to drawings and wall mural—reflects his skill in subtly shifting margins to the center.
