Jiří Kylián on 'Frankenstein!!':

“Why this title? 'Frankenstein!!' is only one of the possibilities. The production is not a modification of the roman by Mary Shelley, or one of the many movies that have been made on the subject. The work by Gruber/Artmann wasn’t based on the narrative of the Frankenstein story, but instead is centered around the effect of the Frankenstein image.
Two important points:

1. The deep-rooted fear of manipulation of man in many ways.
2. The ever so big fascination for horror and brutality.

Gruber and Artmann react to this phenomenon with a caricature drawing of idols, who represent this horror, this inhumane brutality: shameless double standard, that at the same time mock this moral.”
