Robert Frangeš-Mihanović (1872 – 1940), one of the founders of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, alongside which he established a bronze foundry and to which he brought the first bronze founders, was trained in Vienna, and did further studies with Auguste Rodin in Paris. His sculpture is characterised by a broad range of themes and manners of expression. Bronze was the material that suited him best, although he also worked in wood, clay and stone. He is one of the first and best Croatian sculptors of animals, and also made medals and plaques.
