The grave furnishings of this woman are uncommonly rich. Special attention is merited by the cruciform brooch which was put over the mouth: It is a Christian reinterpretation of the Charon’s obol of Greek mythology, that was used to pay the ferryman, Charon, to take the deceased across the underworld river Styx into the realm of the dead.
