Anti-war activists, including Bobby Seale, were arrested after violence erupted in Chicago before and during the 1968 Democratic National Convention. They were charged with conspiracy and inciting riot. Seale was chained to his chair and gagged in court. Condemned to four years in prison for contempt, he was released in 1972. The convictions of the other seven defendants were overturned on appeal.
