Friederich Ludwig Jahn

"Father" Jahn (1778-1852) was a German gymnastics educator and nationalist. His writings helped influence the German campaign of 1813 which ultimately ended Napoleon's occupation of Germany. Jahn developed calisthenic exercises and gymnastics equipment that are still in use today. He was a man ahead of his time in preaching the benefits of health and wellness. His statue can be found in the German Cultural Garden.
