gold frog. This frog, made in the Panama region, Central America, in the period AD 900-1200, and said to have been recovered from a grave at Colon, along with two other small gold items. The frog is actually made of a gold-copper alloy called tumbaga; in the finishing process the copper has been leached from the surface with acid and the remaining gold then burnished.
