From Svalbard with Love is a multi-dimensional timeline that examines the past, present, and future of Longyearbyen, Svalbard; the most northern city located deep within the Arctic Circle. The historic and current strategic significance of the archipelago is demonstrated by the Nazi invasion ‘Operation Zitronella’ as well as contemporary investment such as the Global Seed Vault and the World Arctic Archive. Entangled with data, architecture, infrastructure, humans, non-humans, and machines, the work presents viewers with alternate possible realities of the small town as a consequence of the evolving climate regime. The roles are thus reversed; viewers become the monitors of the remote territory just as Svalbard is currently monitoring the world outside of itself.
