From the series “Flora Amazonica"

"I was born in Iquitos and my work is about Iquitos, its history, its art, and the things that have touched and worried me in the last years about this city. Initially, I addressed in my paintings daily life topics, which were the main theme of my work, and from that I searched for represent the diversity of identities that exist in a modern city in the middle of the Amazon. As the Amazon was a region so unknown to the rest of Peru, I dedicated my work to be a kind of bridge that connected the rest of Peru and the world with the reality of Iquitos, its knowledge, and its history.

Later, my concerns have revolved around how different facts of history have marked the current society, so it is common to see in my work images of the archive that meet with representations of Iquiteño contemporary identity. In a certain way, I have also turned my work into a space for the recognition of Amazonian art. No work of mine in recent years has stopped citing any piece, either historical, either a lost piece of art, or an anonymous mass production, and in many cases I have managed to get attention to some important artists that had not been previously recognized."
