Front Apron

Woven bead and fibre front apron predominantly of red and white background with a lovely geometric designs. Made by grown up girls and married women. The thread was formerly made by the women from fibre of the "Kiamba" tree but is now generally made from sisal fibre, It is fringed with beads or chain, latter made by an old male chainsmith. Worn by the girls to look beautiful at the traditional dances and attract the attention of the young men. When the wearers get married they usually sell the apron to the next age of girls in exchange for a goat.
