National Museums of Kenya

National Museums of Kenya
Nairobi, Kenya

Beautifully designed beaded front apron. The beads are woven with a string made from the fibre of the Mugomo tree. It has squares shapes with crosses on it. Fringed with pieces of old aluminium cooking pots covered on both sides with incised designs hung on strings of beads or short pieces of chain made by a local chainsmith. They are made by girls and worn by the girls "to attract the men". Was never sold in the market at all.
