Jacket: Man’s silk satin twill smoking jacket with embroidery depicting wheat, daisies, flower buds, and leaves; shawl collar, cuffs, pockets, hip-level welt pockets and button tabs embroidered; 2 self covered buttons at either side of CF with tab at waist; lining in black silk with satin stripes. Label: "Hughes & Muller"

Note: Seller believes that this jacket was purchased from an estate in Massachusetts; she acquired it at the Brimfield Antique Show.

Cap: Man's velvet smoking cap with soutache and tassels; round hat divided in five equal portions with lengths of silk cord; cord bow with tassels, fringe, and pom-poms at center top; edged in matching cord; velvet trimmed with concentric diamonds of silk braid applied in meandering lines; interior lined in off-white China silk.

Shirt: Man's shirt of cotton; collarless; overlapping buttonholes on standing band at neckline for stud; long sleeves gathered into French cuffs; square bib front with pintucks; four round MOP buttons down bib; shirt falls loose from bib in vertical slit; slit at each side of bottom shirt.

Man's trousers of striped wool tweed; black plastic buttons stamped "BROOKS BROS. N.Y." sewn to self waistband; button fly; watch pocket at PR side; slit pocket at each hip; pants slightly full at upper leg and taper to ankle; crease at center of each leg at front and reverse; reverse has half belt with metal clasp stamped "BROOKS BROS. SOLIDE"; welt pocket at PR reverse; waistband lining of cotton twill; lining of polished cotton at upper portion of reverse.
