Yue kiln lamp with lotus design Front

Wangye Museum

Wangye Museum
Shenzhen, China

Part of this lamp is shaped like a lotus. The lamp is covered in a celadon glaze that is thick and consistent, making it look as shiny as a piece of jade and as smooth as the surface of a calm lake. The color is a clear green. It is reminiscent of lines of the Mise Ceramic Poem (Mise Ciqi Shi), written by the Tang poet Lu Guimeng: In the ninety days of autumn wind the kilns of Yue are fired, Stealing the kingfisher-blue from a thousand mountain peaks.
