Obverse: Nude boy rider crowns his horse, which stands facing left, with right foreleg raised. Above horse's back and behind rider, ΣΥ [SY] is inscribed. Below horse: ΛΥΚΙ[ΝΟΣ] [LYKI[NOS]. Reverse: Taras sits astride dolphin swimming to left, with a chlamys draped on extended left arm; he hurls a trident with his right arm. To right, an owl with closed wings by a star-like graffito. Below dolphin: TΑΡΑΣ [TARAS]. Taras is both the name of the city that minted this coin and of a legendary figure who was saved from drowning by a dolphin sent by his father, the god Poseidon.
