Beginning in his late 50s, Bampfylde diversified into book illustration, initially providing comical drawings for An Election Ball by poet, Christopher Anstey, in 1776. More standard fare followed, concluding with the landscape and building drawings he provided for J. Collinson’s History and Antiquities of the County of Somerset (1791) and J. Toulmin’s History of Taunton (1791).
