These are wooden sticks used to pound and smooth starched fabric. They are mostly made of birch wood, and the upper and lower parts are slim while the middle is voluminous. It is used by placing starched clothes or sheets on a fulling block, one or two users sitting on either side of the block to pound the fabric using these fulling sticks to smoothen creases. Each stick would be held in one hand, with two sticks consisting a pair. One person may hold a pair of the sticks in each hand, or two persons may sit face to face on each side of the block and pound the fabric with these sticks in both hands. The end of the stick handle is tied with a string, or a string loop is fitted into a hole punctured at the end of the handle to allow the stick to be hung.
