Prince Albert arrived during the third inning and sat with British General Sir Francis Lloyd. Although trained for the Royal Navy, Albert now wore the uniform of a captain in the Royal Air Force. “Bertie” would become King George VI in 1936, following the death of his father, George V, and abdication of his brother, Edward VIII. His daughter, in turn, would become Queen Elizabeth II in 1952. The spectators at Stamford Bridge thus included the reigning king, the future king, and a WWII prime minister, Winston Churchill.
