'Side walk' is a ballet by Christopher Bruce that originally wasn’t planned to be performed by the dancers of NDT. The choreographer was planning on making a new ballet for the company, when he broke his leg. He lost a lot of time and when he was able to work again, there wasn’t enough time left to create the ballet. Therefore, he decided to rehearse an existing choreography instead, in only three weeks.

For the ballet, Bruce was inspired by the chaotic city life. Love aggression, loneliness and poetry are among the themes that can be found in Bruce’s cityscape. He merely wanted to give an impression of the big city, without judgement or moral.
