These dog tags, belonging to Gail S. Halvorsen, were likely worn during his service as a USAF cargo pilot in the South Atlantic Theater from 1944-46. He would have also worn them during the Berlin Airlift 1948-49. Dog tags were important for military folk to wear so they could be identified if they should lose their life during service. The address on the dog tags was of his parents, who moved from their farm in Garland, Utah to Stockton, California when Gail left for military service. Gail's father, Basil worked in the shipyards there closer to Luella's family and with better pay than farm work.
