Colman captures what the Lakota legends might have looked like had they ridden to an artist’s studio and posed for a portrait immediately after the 1876 Battle of the Little Bighorn. Sitting Bull sits at the center, with headdress and pipe, flanked by Crazy Horse on his left, holding a repeating rifle, and Gall on his right, gripping a tomahawk.
