Probably 1840. The most beautiful picture of this nook very pictured by foreign artists in the nineteenth century. From left to right we see: the  English Cemitery, the first of its kind in the country; Until then, the Catholics were buried in the churches. The cemetery still there, surrounded by the same walls, the sea is far away; Various vessels, warehouses, houses and the Tijuca hills. The first burial, registered in  the British Burial Ground's records  dates from January 13, 1811; The land was donated by D. João I in 1808. -
This canvas was exhibited at the Exhibition of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts of 1840. It is a splendor of tropical light and color. (Note of Gilberto Ferrez)
