Possibly this was done because computerization allowed for more randomness (and thus more realism) of different plays or innings. One of the more successful of these attempts, according to players and collectors, was the ABC Aurora Monday Night Football game. The game utilized "computer" cards which each player inserted into his side of the board (field.) The cards allowed for realistic variances in plays and yards gained or lost. The game was endorsed by Dallas Cowboy Roger Staubach.
