German designer Ian Livingstone's board game Automania pits players against others as automobile manufacturers and exporters. Various twists await an exporter if her or his opponent sets up an embargo. At the same time, each player's car-shaped symbol races around a track, advancing according to the player's actions and essentially timing the game. At game's end, the winner is the player whose race car finishes first, and who has shown the most overall profit. Livingstone's clever games were only manufactured in editions of 1000.
