World War I inspired many different war-themed board game. One such game, of which only the game board remains, is Strat The Great War Game. Marked for a New York firm in 1915, the game appears to be a true variation on strategy games involving war on the European front. America had not yet entered World War I but the public undoubtedly read wartime headlines with anticipation. The Strat game involved moving markers through European countries already at war at that time, undoubtedly capturing opponent's pieces in the process.
