A game inventor and publisher during his career, the donor also amassed a huge collection of many different types of games, game prototypes, and related materials. He gifted much of his collection to The Strong in 2017. Lords of Creation was Avalon Hill's foray into serious role-playing games in 1983. Designer Tom Moldvay had worked on Dungeons & Dragons and Star Frontiers. Lords of Creation broke the so-called fourth wall, allowing characters who had evolved to lord status to become the game master during their turn. The game did not inspire good reviews.
