The oldest domino set is dated around 1120 A.D., but modern dominos as we know them originated from China and were made of ivory and ebony. In the early 18th century, the game migrated to Italy and the name "Domino" was born. The name comes from the pieces' resemblance to Venetian Carnival masks known as "domini", which were white with black spots. Dominoes have been with us ever since, made of paper, wood, ivory, and now plastic. Besides the many games possible with a set of dominoes, people are also fascinated with the practice of toppling them. Set up carefully in lines, the effect of a large-scale topple is often spectacular. This contemporary play set has a special toy truck that lays dominoes down end-up, so that they're ready to be toppled.
