The late 19th century saw the introduction of McLoughlin Brothers' fortune telling game "Chromagica." Hidden magnets controlled the device, which seemed to point to the answers to mysterious questions. In 1884 the department store Strawbridge & Clothier, of Philadelphia, presented a similar device as a Christmas premium to good customers. Called "The Oracle," the game carries a similar magnetic mechanism.
