The game of put-and-take, a public domain game, can be played either with a teetotum, or top, marked appropriately or with dice. Schaper Toys of Minneapolis produced several versions of a game set which comes with a special top, poker-style chips, and a bowl for the chips. The rules are quite simple and are governed by spins of the top. Substitute coins for the chips and the game becomes a simple form of gambling. That is how it originally developed.
