Game publisher Simulations Publications Incorporated (SPI) was founded in 1969 by the influential game designer Jim Dunnigan. He had found success with his first wargame Jutland, published by Avalon Hill in 1967, and formed the company soon afterwards. Between 1966 and 1992 he designed over 100 wargames, and in 1980 authored "The Complete Wargames Handbook.". Simulations Publications also published influential gaming magazines including "Strategy and Tactics," "Moves," and "Ares." Though most of the games it produced were sold in plastic ziploc bags, SPI published several of its popular games in the late 1970s as Collector's Editions, in bookshelf-size boxes.
