Stephen V. Cole and Allen Eldridge founded Task Force Games in 1980. Cole left the firm in the early 1980s but continued to design its best-selling game series, Star Fleet Battles. Many of Task Force Games' early games were micro-sized and packaged in resealable plastic bags. Later, larger editions appeared. The games are typically based on science-fiction or historic wars.
