Englishman Joseph Assheton Fincher sought a patent for his game Tiddledy-winks in 1889. The game caught on among adults on both sides of the Atlantic and rival game producers soon made their own versions, under many different names. Eventually the game fell out of favor among adults but children still loved it. Tiddledy-winks for adults did enjoy a renaissance, however, on university campuses in 1955. It still finds some popularity there. American game makers McLoughln Brothers produced this version during the late 19th century.
