The game tiddledy winks appeared in England around 1888 and enjoyed much popularity in the late 19th century. It gradually fell from adult favor but remained a children's game until it was re-discovered at Cambridge University in 1955, and has since grown into a serious pastime, with several national organizations. Many American manufacturers produced decorative tiddledy winks sets during the early twentieth cenutury, when the game was played mostly by children.
