Subbuteo is well-known as the most popular and long-running tabletop football game, but there have been other variations over the decades and in 1978 fans could go on the march with Ally’s army and take charge of Scotland at the World Cup. The Gamester World Cup 1978 game featured a giant fold out pitch, cardboard players and elaborate rules, which let your players shoot, dribble, pass or even chip the ball over their opponents, all with the roll of a dice. There were even advanced rules, allowing you to execute elaborate moves and tactics. So not only could you relive Archie Gemmell’s moment of magic and the win over Holland, but you could even make amends for the defeat to Peru and draw with Iran.
